Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious...

I could have chosen a number of different song titles from famous musicals to have referenced, but the classic Julie Andrews and Dick van Dyke ditty sums up the strong start to the season for White Roding 45s. We have conceded goals and we have dropped points, but welcoming Newport to CM6 today gave us the opportunity to extend our unbeaten start to the season to 5 games.

Like any West End stage show it takes a cast to make the music come alive and the Rogers & Hammerstein anthem that became an anthemic football song, our camaraderie ensures that if you have a dodgy game "You'll Never Walk Alone!" The Gaffer recently sat down with the club's midfield Musical maestro, Dean Yeowell to discuss what he thought of the season so far. "It's been Wicked" proclaimed the Shaftsbury Avenue aficionado "...a real Thriller from the first game. Great team spirit too, we are like Blood Brothers - of course we will have our disagreements but we only want smiles. Miserables are not welcome." Asked about his own performances and he points to the Kipsta Junior armband that forces veins from his small, but perfectly-formed biceps "I say in my weekly team talk with the lads (and slips into some of his mysterious Italian family history colloquialisms) 'Mama Mia, here we go again. The Jersey... Boys, is what we play for... do it proud!'" When questioned about whether his lack of goals has impacted his form this term, Yeowell retorted "Lying 'king rumours" before reflecting "I have been unlucky up until now. With every shot that the keeper pushes on to the crossbar, I pray for divine intervention, take a deep breath and then dust myself down with a few wise words 'Miss... Sigh... Gone...'" Half term meant Dom, Dave Dawson and Steve Luxford were away in sunnier climes topping up their tans and a raft of family commitments and injuries robbed us of Woodsy, Ian H, Dean, Cyril, & Tony B

Wet weather and windy conditions played havoc with the slick passing approach and some of the spectators' hair. Dave East went close with a couple of early efforts whilst Spencer & Bumble worked hard on the wings. The deadlock was broken by a sand wedge of a shot from Si Copper. Changing some personnel in the 2nd half and opting for a 4-4-1-1 produced a more attacking approach with Gary Devine, Dan Robinson and Spencer were repelled by the visitors' keeper. The victory was sealed with a fine finish for his industrious display by Mark Corner. A late free kick in a great position was about to break the back of the net after The Gaffer had run the length of the pitch to take it... except Kenny "Have Whistle, Will Blow It" Ward called time and ruined a glorious finale.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious... a fifth game undefeated equals a White Roding record, so hardly quite atrocious and therefore over a beer and the Jamie Oliver Vegetarian Chilli tonight we can afford to sound a little bit precocious! Special mention goes to Dean after suffering from lower limb injuries, a trip to see the Gloria Estefan West End hit in the week gave him the inspiration to get back On Your Feet... although we have not yet seen him wear his Cuban heels.
