Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes...

It has been a month since we last played and another 6 days until (weather permitting) we play again, but during these 5 weeks' off we have been busy... and most of it Child's Play!

We've had nights out (including partners), communication with the league on various fronts, deflecting questions on squad selection for the Semi Final (but at the same time having to plan for a potential Final just a few weeks away), taking enquiries from new faces interested in joining next season and ordering more XXL shirts to compensate for a little over-indulgence over the festive period. In short, we have had a lot to occupy our heads this month. I strongly believe that a team is indeed just that... a team. A collection of individuals whose shoulders each take a burden of responsibility and action in what they can create, offer and support with. With 11 games left... potentially 12, we have a big 2nd half of the season still to deliver that will require our squad of 25 to deliver on all fronts. Not everybody has the talents, time or resources to give what others can on & off the field, but every contribution is vital.

So far this season the 45s have bettered every averaged playing statistic since White Roding Vets were formed. We still have far to go (and improve) if we are better the halcyon days of 2014-6.

So with less than a week before we visit Newport to kick-start our season again, the Gaffer will be undergoing his 2nd knee op of the 2010's on NYE. The aim is to be back playing (more than a bit part emergency sub) in the new season. Age, Cruciate reconstruction, over-use and the occasional friction burn have all taken their toll and I will not be alone in this challenge. We all have injuries, but with more miles on the clock than XR2i with lowered suspension and a boom box in the back, we need regular servicing and better refuelling to continue the game we all love.

In January we start our course of Yoga that will help many of us touch our toes for the first time in a decade. The benefits of "Doing something different" to help enhance your primary objective (win at your chosen sport) has long been known... and Yoga is just one aspect that we will be exploring for the remainder of this season and getting ready for next. In the meantime, enjoy your final few days off and welcome to the 2020's!
