Last Sunday we were due to play South Woodham... that got cancelled due to their injury list

We were then pitted against Great Baddow... by Wednesday that had fallen foul of their fragile Achilles too By Thursday a friendly match had been sorted against Shenfield and with a delay in the 19/20 League Cup Final (now 13th Oct), we had the opportunity of extra minutes in the legs and try out some new ideas. We play in a kit made by Hummel... whose trademark is a V-shape on many of their kits. Geese also fly in Vs... also known as Echelons. We commonly associate Echelons with importance, rank and privilege, which is far removed from our feathered friends' formation as possible. They all take turns at the front, working harder so that they others may benefit from their efforts... and so it is the ethic that I stand by for this squad.

Spencer tried out at full back, Woodsy shimmied with a Cryuff turn in his own area and Ev made a welcome appearance. The game got off to a frenetic start with blustery winds making passing unpredictable. Still John Deamer opened his account by starting and finishing a fine move on 15 minutes. The visitors responded and some slopping defensive play allowed them to equalise 5 minutes later. Not to be outdone and despite missing a chance or 2 before hand, Splinters hit a beauty after Big Steve Allen laid it up for Barno, who flicked on and the rest is history. The 2nd half saw substitutions through formation changes and injury. Ev' let slip an easy ball to make it 2-2 and then... and then... playing up front Bumble latched on to a through ball and was well-rewarded for his ceaseless running with a lovely lob from 20 yards. Still we were pegged back through our own mistakes. Dean hit from long range, Ev headed over, where as Babs never stopped running. Then, back on after a cigarette break, Holly went on a mazy run to settle the tie with a goal that completed a Fantastic Four. Squad rotation is just like a Goose Echelon... with responsibilities and roles regularly rotated. So many positives, with a few precautionary fitness concerns, but so much better than last week, no game or just a training session. Fingers crossed everyone is back fit for the Final!
