...paraphrasing the leper in Monty Python's (anarchic and archaic) Life of Brian.

5 years ago White Roding Vets (35s) played in Division 3 East. They played with a squad of 25, had 20 matches with a win ratio of 60%, averaging over 1.9pts per game and ended up runners-up in the league.

5 years ago Brutey, Sonic, Woodsy, DD and Molty all starred at some point, they also appeared alongside Steptoe, Lofty and Millsy for the Reserves during that season.

It was described by many the high point of the decade-long history of White Roding Vets.

Half a decade later and halfway through the season, better times are returning to CM6.

A squad of 25 players are 11 games into a possible 20 in Div 1 North, we have a win ratio getting close to 60%, averaging over 1.9pts per game and could be 2nd in the league by the time we have played our game in hand.

All players above except Brutey have been involved, as he recovers from a long-term injury.

With 3 emergency goalkeepers, our defensive record is not quite as good as 14/15, but we are outscoring them by over a goal-per-game and 50% more players have hit the back of the net and Holly has already bettered the top-scorer charts after 6 games (3 of which he has not even managed 90 mins).

We would need to lose 4 more in 9 games to have a poorer Loss Record and have similarly impressive results at home. We have had no bookings, nor sending offs, or even sin bins - so definitely no Messiahs or Naughty Boys in the team.... and no Brians either.

There is of course a cup Semi Final to come and rather than be crucified for upturn in fortunes, we pray for that we see more crosses from Lucy as we strive to "Always look on the bright side of life."
