A change is good as a rest...

No match this week after some early-season Group (D) Stage Matches resulted in the uncommon position of a 100% record.

For many this means a day of shopping with the wife, a list of DIY chores, amusing the children or waiting for Frank Bough to give latest scores on Grandstand. The Gaffer is indeed going "Sofa shopping" but that is sandwiched between finishing Matthew Syed's latest book which weaves sporting, real-life and psychology elements together and watching league rivals boot a ball about in Braintree.

Under the new Gaffer this season, we have done some things different to previous seasons albeit with the same faces. New formations... players in different positions... pre-match team talks and post-game washing-up duties.

So far, so good... but expect tweaks in tactics, warm-up routines and different delicacies for your lively lager to wash down. Of course we have re-introduced some family-favourites with new twists like half-time oranges WITH Jelly Babies, WotW and a child's-sized Captain's Armband.

We are trying to make Saturdays fun, inclusive and successful... and for that to happen, we are respectfully being rebellious in our late 40's & early 50's. The Gaffer does not have all the ideas, nor should he. All the best teams are a mix of minds, a blend of backgrounds and a range of responsibilities that keep them winning. So whatever you are doing differently today, enjoy it... learn from it... and if you think it will help White Roding get another 3pts, bring it to the game next week.

Thanks to a couple of individuals for their suggestions of “something different” they tried at the weekend... however, those activities are illegal in 38 US States, not allowed to shown on YouTube and club funds could not stretch to that amount of petroleum jelly!
